What is Pathway Diploma Assessment?

For a Pathway Diploma Assessment, the TVO ILC Guidance Team will complete a written assessment detailing your progress towards achieving an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).  The assessment will provide you with a recommended pathway toward the OSSD including:

  • the number of compulsory and optional credits still to be earned toward the OSSD
  • recommendations for meeting the credit requirements (compulsory and optional) and other graduation requirements (literacy, community involvement and online learning).

If you are not mature (under 18 years of age) AND transferring to TVO ILC from home schooling, a non-inspected private school or a school outside Ontario, the TVO ILC Guidance Team will assess your prior learning and grant equivalency credits for placement purposes at TVO ILC through the PLAR process. The assessment will determine:

  • the total number of equivalencies to be granted consistent with Ministry PLAR policies and procedures
  • the number of compulsory and optional credits still to be earned toward the OSSD
  • the other graduation requirements to be completed (literacy, community involvement and online learning).

The number of equivalencies granted and the number of compulsory credits included will be recorded on the student’s Ontario Student Transcript.

For mature students, turning 18 this academic year or over 18 years of age, the equivalency process is different.  Please review the information about Mature PLAR eligibility and process  before applying for a Mature PLAR assessment.
