What you need to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) depends on the year you started high school.
A. If you started an Ontario high school between September 1, 1999, and August 31, 2024, you must earn:
- a minimum of 30 credits
- 18 compulsory and 12 optional credits
- the literacy graduation requirement
- 40 hours of community involvement activities (volunteering)
- at least 2 online learning credits (applies to students who started Grade 9 in 2020-2021 academic year or later and to adult learners who entered secondary school starting in the 2023-2024 academic year)

B. If you started Grade 9 in 2024-2025, or in later years, you must earn:
- minimum of 30 credits
- 17 compulsory and 13 optional credits
- the literacy graduation requirement
- 40 hours of community involvement activities (volunteering)
- at least 2 online learning credits (applies to adult learners who entered a secondary school in the 2023-2024 academic year or later)
